AirBnB Tips

5 Low-Cost Ways to Get Better Airbnb Reviews (That Guests Actually Notice)

Is your AirBnB overall rating not where you want it to be? Do guests comment that your space is “okay” but not “warm”, “welcoming”, or “cozy”? First impressions matter a lot when it comes to an AirBnB stay. When guests walk in, they want an instant wow factor – something that puts a smile on their face. Try the following simple tips to help give your guests a reason to leave those 5-star reviews:

1) Welcome Board

One way to show guests that you appreciate them is by acknowledging them by name, instead of making them feel like just another booking. A letter board is an easy piece of decor that you can add to your space that allows you to personalize each welcome by just swapping out a few letters between each stay. Our welcome board always says: “Welcome to the Cozy Cottage,” followed by the name(s) of our guests.

2) Thank You Card

A Thank You card is a perfect way to show guests that you care and put thought into making their stay enjoyable. My template usually goes something like:

“Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us! We hope you enjoy your weekend in the area (add something personal here if the guest told you why they are in town). If you need anything, please reach out via the Airbnb app or text ___ (if you’re comfortable giving your phone number).”

It’s simple, only takes a minute to put together, and will make your space feel more personalized. Plus – it’s low cost for you. I buy my Thank You cards on Amazon, and a pack of 24 usually lasts for a few months worth of guests.

3) A Sweet Treat

Who doesn’t love something sweet!? The answer is: maybe not everyone does, but even just the gesture shows guests that you care. These chocolates always seemed to be a hit with guests, and again – one purchase of these will last you for several guest stays.

4) Hydration Station

There’s nothing worse than being parched after a travel day. Another low cost, bulk buy that will last you a while and leave your guests feeling cared for is bottled water. If you want to go the extra mile and make your space feel really “bougie,” opt for Fiji water. I’ve found that Amazon and Costco usually have the best price.

5) Snacks

For those who may not like something sweet, a salty treat might better suit their taste buds. Costco is a great place to shop for bulk, individually packaged snacking food. My go-to snacks were always: chips, fruit snacks, anything from the Nabisco snack variety pack, and granola bars. It sounds like a big investment, but again – these things will last you longer than you think. I cannot tell you how many people raved about the fruit snacks at our AirBnB.

There are so many small things that can go a long way in making your guests feel happy and cared for. Guests sometimes choose AirBnB over hotels because they want that cozy, homey feeling. These small investments are a great way to achieve that.
