The Perfect Airbnb Bedroom: Everything You Need for a 5-Star Guest Experience

A comfortable bedroom is one of the most important parts of any Airbnb stay. After a long day of traveling, exploring, or driving, guests want a space where they can truly relax and get a great night’s sleep.

When a bedroom feels cozy, clean, and thoughtfully designed, guests notice (and it often shows up in their reviews).

Below is everything we include in our Airbnb bedroom to help create a comfortable, welcoming space. These are products and setups we’ve personally used for over 100 guest stays, and they’ve helped us maintain our consistent 5-star rating.

Bed & Bedding:

When putting together your Airbnb bedroom, the bed itself should be your top priority. Comfort matters more than almost anything else in the room, and it can make a huge difference in how guests rate their stay.

The mattress that has earned us countless compliments from guests is the Ashley Signature Design Chime Hybrid Mattress. For just under $400 for a king size, it’s an incredible value for the level of comfort it provides.

I also recommend choosing a bed frame with a headboard, which adds both comfort and visual appeal to the room. The one linked below is actually the same frame we use in our own bedroom at home. I made a very easy DIY headboard for our Airbnb (keep an eye out for a future blog post about this!).

Essential Bedding Items:

Host tips:

Choose white bedding.
I know this sounds a little intimidating, but white bedding instantly elevates the look of your space and signals cleanliness to guests. The key is to keep a strong stain remover on hand, and also keep at least 1 extra set of sheets and duvet covers if you need to make an unexpected replacement. This makes turnovers much easier if something gets stained between stays.

Offer different pillow firmness options. Providing two soft pillows and two firm pillows allows guests to choose what works best for them.

Decorative pillows add personality. Be bold and add some color or pattern! Just make sure they have removable covers so they can easily be washed between stays.

Bedroom Furniture:

Beyond the bed itself, there are several furniture pieces that make the room more functional and comfortable for guests.

Essential Bedroom Furniture:

Nice To Have (but not required) Bedroom Furniture:

Host tips:

Make outlets accessible near the bed. Guests almost always want to charge their phones overnight. Ideally, outlets should be close enough that guests can plug in their phone and place it directly on the nightstand.

If your outlets aren’t conveniently located, consider:

These small upgrades feel surprisingly luxurious to guests.

Dressers are optional—but helpful for longer stays. If your Airbnb frequently hosts longer bookings, adding a dresser can make the space much more comfortable.

Must-Have Closet Items:

Guests will often check the closet during their stay to see what additional items are available. Maybe they need an extra blanket, or an extra pillow for sleeping support. Keeping a few essentials stocked makes the space feel thoughtful and well prepared.

Closet Essentials:

  • Hangers
  • Extra Blankets (ideally enough for each guest)
  • 2 Extra Pillows
  • Extra Set of Sheets
  • Laundry Hamper
  • Safe (not required, but nice to have)

Try to keep the closet items the same as the other bedroom items to create a cohesive feel across the space.

Small Comfort Items That Guests Love:

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference in guest comfort.

Comfort Essentials:

Host Tips:

Choose floor-length blackout curtains if possible. Curtains that extend all the way to the floor make the room feel more elegant, cozy, and even slightly taller

Add a rug under the bed. If your bedroom flooring is hardwood, laminate, or tile, a rug makes a huge difference in comfort. It’s much nicer for guests to step onto something warm and soft instead of a cold floor when they wake up.

Final Thoughts:

When it comes to Airbnb bedrooms, investing in comfort is almost always worth it.

Guests want a space where they can relax and get a great night’s sleep. Providing quality bedding, thoughtful furniture, and a few extra comfort items shows guests that you’ve put real care into their experience.

And when guests feel that level of comfort and attention to detail, they’re much more likely to leave the 5-star review every host hopes for.
